A SAD DAY FOR AMERICA

THROW ‘WHO’ UNDER THE BUS?

This past Thursday, May 19, President Obama shocked the Jewish community when he endorsed the Palestinian position on the borders of their future state. Obama said Israel should return to their pre-1967 war border, which would divide Jerusalem in half and make Israel an eight mile wide state.

The withdrawal would also surrender the strategic Golan Heights in the north, once again giving a tactical advantage to Syria, who more than once has called for the complete annihilation of all Jews. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quickly responded to the speech by saying this move would leave Israel ‘indefensible’.

I don’t know about you, but as a Christian I am fully committed to the Lord Jesus Christ and His plan for Israel, whom He calls the ‘apple of His eye’. The covenant God made with Abraham has not been altered or changed. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse. (Genesis 12:3).

Giving up land for peace is an exercise in futility when it comes to those who won’t even recognize Israel’s right to exist. The mindset of the Arab nations, controlled by Islamic radicals, is not one of peace, but of world domination…a world without one single Jew in it!

But what does that have to do with us in America? Should we bother thinking about a problem way over there? We have enough to worry about right here. Jerri, haven’t you heard about the floods and tornadoes in the mid-west? And don’t you know hurricane season is just around the corner?

Perhaps a little review of recent history might be in order. In late Oct. 1991 the Madrid Conference was convened. “Land for peace” deals were the order of the day under former president Herbert Walker Bush. Coincidentally the Kennebunkport Bush compound was severely damaged when 35 foot waves traveled east to west instead of the usual west to east direction.

Not one to give up, Bush moved the conference to Washington D.C. where the decided goal was to make Israel forfeit land for peace. The talks began on August 24, 1992. The very same day Hurricane Andrew landed in Florida. The hurricane then traveled out in the gulf area.

How about an earthquake comparison? On January 16, 1994 former President Bill Clinton met with the Syrian president el-Assad in Switzerland to discuss plans to have Israel give up the Golan Heights. Less than 24 hours later on January 17th the Northridge Earthquake struck Southern California. The earthquake caused an estimated $20 billion in damage, over 9,000 persons injured and 72 declared dead. It was one of the costliest natural disasters in our history.

I surely don’t want to leave out tornadoes in this brief look at natural disasters and their correlation to Israel. On May 3, 1999 Yasser Arafat (the terrorist who led the PLO and who was eventually awarded the Nobel Peace Prize), was scheduled to declare a Palestinian state, taking over Jerusalem in the process.

His planned action was a major breach of the Oslo Accords, at which he defiantly snubbed his nose. His planned declaration didn’t work, but a severe weather outbreak of tornadoes hit our country lasting from May 3-6. On May 3, 1999 a total of 66 tornadoes broke out in Oklahoma and Kansas. In Oklahoma alone $1.1 billion in damage was reported and 48 people perished.

I could list many other so-called natural disasters correlating the treatment of Israel to each disaster but space does not permit in this article. Suffice it to say, I believe America is on a fast track to disaster if we don’t make our voices heard in opposition to this insane treatment of our only democratic ally in the Middle East: Israel.

Every country who has cursed Israel has either disappeared from history or has been reduced in power in some way. Look at Egypt (remember old Pharoah?), the Babylonian Empire, the Grecian Empire and the Roman Empire? In more recent times we have seen the fall of England and Germany. Both nations mistreated the Jews; German leader Hitler tried to exterminate them and England would not honor the Balfour Declaration which would have given Israel the land space they deserved.

(Land originally allocated in 1917 Balfour Declaration as a homeland for Israel)

What will happen to America if we continue to push Israel to give up their land? I believe we will become a cursed and diminishing world power…just like those who have gone on before us. We will become a page in a dusty history book. Wake up America!
